Good Leadership just feels "Natural" and "Organic" : a personal sharing by Dr. TiehKoun Koh

Updated: Oct 3

As I reflect on my journey, I recall my first year at university, where I immersed myself in the wonders of Zoology and Botany. Initially, Zoology's intricate world captivated me, but as I matured, the gentle beauty of Botany began to unfold its secrets to me. During my regular strolls and jogs in nature, I've come to cherish the trees, ferns, and flowers that have become like old friends, whispering tales of my youth. Each one stands beautiful and complete, a testament to the perfection of imperfection. Though words falter to capture this essence, I've grown to recognize the subtle harmony that resonates within me. After graduation, I ventured into the realm of commerce, sales, and marketing, where I discovered an intriguing parallel between effective strategies and the completeness I've observed in nature. When a strategy feels 'complete,' its potential becomes palpable. Throughout my career, I've been blessed with two exceptional mentors who guided and refined my skills, shaping me into a capable business leader. Their leadership embodied what I term 'Very Organic Goodness' – a quality that inspires, nurtures, and rejuvenates the soul. This philosophy starkly contrasts with the 'toxic leaders' I wrote about recently; instead, it celebrates leaders who uplift, empower, and bring out the best in others. As a sales leader, I've had the privilege of conducting team-building activities in breathtaking gardens and organizing mindfulness training sessions amidst nature's splendor. I've witnessed sales and sales support leaders from diverse backgrounds – Germany, China, India, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and Singapore – come together, inspired by the natural world. The transformation and bonding that ensued were nothing short of magical, a testament to the power of nature to rejuvenate and unite.
